Our Values: Empowering

To be perfectly honest, when we were first thinking about our core values for Elevation One, “empowering” wasn’t even on the list. Instead, it was actually “education", which, if you’ve seen us, you’ll know is an integral part of what we do.

But why do we like to educate our patients? It’s so that they know what the plan is - why we’ll do what we do, and why we not doing other things. Why are we doing things a certain way compared to your friend who did something slightly different? How does doing these (usually odd) exercises help with the greater goal of returning back to sport?

To us, there’s nothing more disappointing than when we talk to people who have been seen a health “professional” once, only to be guilt tripped into booking in for another 8 sessions (red flag much?), without any explanation of why they should be going back!

We’re in this together 💪🏻

We think it’s paramount that we take the time time to educate all of our patients about their treatment, so that they themselves can play an active role in their path to recovery. If you’re not bought in to the treatment plan, the treatment won’t work, because we’re in this together. It’s really hard to do your rehab exercises when you don’t really know why you’re doing them - especially if they’re boring!

Accountability

We also like to educate our patients so that we can empower them to hold us accountable e.g. if we said that a treatment plan would take 6 sessions and we later need 10, we should have to explain why - and it should make sense!

With that said, we don’t really like seeing patients unnecessarily - if we can’t help, we refer them on to a specialist who can. So it’s helpful for our patients to know that, so if it comes time for a tough decision to be made, it hasn’t come out of nowhere - because everyone has been aware of the plan from the beginning.
